Access to a family physician

Access gateways have been set up to facilitate the identification, prioritization and direction of clients in search of a family physician. You can register to the access gateway by completing the /typo3conf/l10n/fr/rtehtmlarea/Resources/Private/Language/fr.locallang_accessibilityicons.xlf:external_link_new_window_altTextonline form or by calling the access gateway.

Telephone: 1 844 962-4263

For people on the Lower North Shore only: 418 461-2144, extension 611263

It is important to keep your contact information up to date in order to be easily reached when a physician is assigned to you. If your information has changed, there are two ways to update it in the access gateway:

  1. Online at /typo3conf/l10n/fr/rtehtmlarea/Resources/Private/Language/
  2. By telephone at 1 844 962-4263

Schedule an appointment with your family physician at /typo3conf/l10n/fr/rtehtmlarea/Resources/Private/Language/fr.locallang_accessibilityicons.xlf:external_link_new_window_altText (in participating clinics).

Primary care access point (GAP)

This service allows people who do not have a family physician (unattached patients) to have their situation assessed to be directed to the appropriate professional or medical service. The /typo3conf/l10n/fr/rtehtmlarea/Resources/Private/Language/fr.locallang_accessibilityicons.xlf:external_link_new_window_altTextPrimary care access point (GAP) is being deployed gradually in the region by fall 2022.

Telephone: 1 844 962-4263, option 2

  • Fermont: June 1, 2022
  • Haute-Côte-Nord and Minganie: June 21, 2022
  • Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles: July 27, 2022
  • Manicouagan and Lower North Shore: September 19, 2022

The GAP is intended for people who do not have a family physician only. You must also be registered to the Québec Family Doctor Finder (GAMF) to have access to these services.

Your name will remain on the GAMF waiting list until a family physician is assigned to you permanently.

You can reach the GAP by telephone at 1 844 962-4263, option 2 from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Have your health insurance card on hand when you call.

A nurse will assess your health care needs and direct your request to the appropriate service based on availability.

The GAP is not an emergency line. If you have a serious problem or an urgent need, call 911 or go to the emergency department.
