About us

Word of welcome

Welcome on the website for the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de la Côte-Nord.

This website's goal is to inform the population, the network's staff and our partners about the health services and social services offered in the region. You will also find information about the network's organization, as well as career opportunities. Also of interest, the Documentation section assembles various data and statistics about the population's health and well-being.

Enjoy your visit!

Overview of the region

The CISSS covers a territory that goes from Tadoussac to Blanc-Sablon (almost 1300 km of shoreline) and includes Anticosti Island and the northern towns of Fermont and Schefferville.

The North Shore counts around 90,000 inhabitants, spread out in six regional county municipalities. Together, the towns of Baie-Comeau and Sept-îles account for half the population of the territory. The other half is distributed into roughly forty municipalities, some of them not linked to the road network.

The population is mainly French-speaking, except on the Lower North Shore, where over 60% of residents have English as a first language.

First Nations make up 14% of the regional population. The North Shore includes a Naskapi community in Kawawachikamach and eight Innu communities.
